Health Newsletters

Below are the links to newsletters which I used to send out to my patients bimonthly while I was still in private practice.

Issue 1, May - June 2005

Welcome to the first issue of a bimonthly newsletter, written to keep you informed of all the latest developments in the field of alternative medicine.

With the first signs of winter fast approaching, what better way to start off than with dedicating this newsletter to colds and ‘flu – be it the prevention or treatment thereof.

As I am sure you are all aware, homoeopathy works very successfully as a prophylaxis for colds and ‘flu. Not to mention its efficacy once those dreaded sniffles and body aches start – and all treatments are free from side effects!

I am offering the following treatment options at my practice this winter season:

Homoeopathic prophylactic injections:
The initial course consists of four weekly injections, with monthly follow up injections.

Oral homoeopathic prophylaxis:
For children and those of you who dislike injections, there are also prophylactic homoeopathic vials available. Otherwise you could try the new homoeopathic anti-'flu “vaccine”. It consists of an active serum of specific antibodies, whereby two drops are applied to the skin and rubbed in daily. Try it… it works!

And once the sniffles and sneezes start:
Homoeopathic and herbal cold & ‘flu treatment:
Once I find out exactly what type of symptoms you are exhibiting, I can prescribe specific remedies that match your symptoms and will speed up your recovery. For even faster improvement these remedies can be given in an injectable form.

I hope you enjoyed this issue. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Wishing you the best of health,
Angelika

Watch out for the next issue featuring “Live Blood Analysis – The latest in darkfield microscopy, giving you incredible insights into the state of your health”

Top of page

Issue 2, July - August 2005

This issue features a new diagnostic tool I have recently acquired in my practice called Live Blood Analysis (a.k.a. Darkfield Microscopy). Using this, it is now possible to see at what stage of pathological development the body is in, simply by using one drop of blood.

A drop of live blood (that has not been killed by staining) from the patient's finger is viewed under a special microscope using a darkfield condenser. The blood sample is thus illuminated from the sides, making the various components phosphoresce behind a dark background. It is then possible to see very small particles, smaller than a cell, which would not normally be visible under a normal light microscope. All the living components of the blood are seen clearly, and can be viewed by the patient and practitioner using a video camera and a television monitor.

Blood is not sterile and germ-free, instead there are living micro-organisms in the blood of all warm-blooded animals. They exist in symbiosis with their hosts and even form a part of their cells’ organelles. All diseases are related to the evolution and pathogenic development of these organisms. If our internal environment is out of balance, they enter a developmental cycle and change from their primitive, non-pathogenic state into a bacterial or fungal phase, which is the most pathogenic state. This is the theory of pleomorphism.

I can observe the state of these organisms, and as a result health imbalances may be averted by reading these early warning signs and making the necessary changes that will allow one to rebalance the physiology. The progression and reversal of degenerative conditions that may already be in motion can also be tracked.

Depending on the irregularities I find in the blood, there are a wide variety of different conditions that can be determined. The following are just a few examples:
• Indication of low immune status
• Atherosclerotic predisposition
• Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
• Hormonal imbalances
• Predisposition to degenerative diseases

I hope you enjoyed this issue. Feel free to contact me if you have any queries or would like to have a live blood analysis done.

Watch out for the next issue featuring “Biopuncture – using biotherapeutic injections to stimulate the natural self-healing capabilities of your body.”

Top of page

Issue 3, September - October 2005

I would like to inform you about a new technique in natural medicine that I now offer called Biopuncture, consisting of injecting biotherapeutic products into specific points.

Most people - especially those who are apprehensive about injections - are surprised how easily and quickly these injections are given. They are not as painful as a ‘normal’ injection because the needle used is very fine and the quantity injected is very small. Most of them are given into or just under the skin; others are given into specific muscle points. The place where the product is injected is as important as the product itself.

Most doctors use biopuncture for minor orthopedic problems (i.e. back and neck pain). It can, however, also be used to treat allergies and inflammations (i.e. hay fever, sinusitis and asthma), and even more lingering conditions like migraine, osteoarthritis, headaches, Crohn’s disease, colitis, neuralgia, etc.

Biopuncture is also interesting for those patients who have tried conventional medicine but have had no success, or have had to stop taking conventional medication because of side effects. In some patients it may be advantageous to combine the conventional approach together with biopuncture.

Since the products used in biopuncture are diluted, they are not as ‘strong’ as conventional medication (e.g. painkillers, cortisone); thus effects are not as noticeable in the short term. This means that you may need 3 or more sessions before any improvement becomes apparent. When you realize that these products are natural products that do not show any major side effects, you may be motivated to be more patient than usual. In the long run, however, the results of this form of natural medicine are longer lasting because biopuncture works on a deeper level.

Biopuncture is not a miracle therapy and cannot heal all your medical problems. When serious damage has already occurred, biopuncture will be simply too late to reverse the damage and bring the body back into balance again. It may however reduce pain and improve quality of life.

Watch out for the next issue featuring “Sun care”

Top of page

Issue 4, November - December 2005

Summer has arrived! And so I find it appropriate to dedicate this issue to Sun care, just in time to be prepared for the beautiful Summer and outdoor activities ahead.

As you are all aware, the sun is the earth’s source of life energy. Scientifically it has been proven to lift our spirits and even generate a feeling of health in our bodies. Yet we cannot see or feel its dangerous ultraviolet rays! Just as X-rays penetrate the body, UV light penetrates the skin. The longer the wavelength of the light, the deeper the penetration. The shorter the wavelength however, the higher the energy and therefore the greater the potential for damage.

There are 3 main UV rays that we consider important in skin care: UVA, UVB and UVC.
• UVA is divided into two types, UVA1 (320-360 nm) which causes tanning and over long term increases the fragility of skin and UVA2 (360-400 nm) which is mainly responsible for long term damage to skin.
• UVB (290-320 nm) causes sunburn as well as premature aging, and has been linked to skin cancer.
• UVC (100-290 nm) is the most destructive, causing the most damage. This is the ray that should be filtered out by the ozone layer. Unfortunately scientists are finding that it can be measured more easily as the ozone layer continues to be depleted.

In South Africa it has not yet become a legal requirement to have UVC protection in sunscreens. And many products on the market also do not have adequate UVA and UVB protection either. This is why it is always so important to read the labels of everything you buy! The SPF of a product represents the number of times longer you can stay in the sun for with sunscreen on. For example, if you redden in 15 minutes without a sunscreen on, then with an SPF 10 product it should take you 150 minutes on average to get the same degree of reddening.

So remember to seek shade, avoid peak danger times, wear hats and protective clothing and use SAFE SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS! After all, skin cancers are on the increase and there is no such thing as a safe sun- or ultraviolet-induced tan!

Wishing you the best of health, and a safe and prosperous New Year!

Watch out for the next issue featuring “Mineral Therapy”

Top of page

Issue 5, January - February 2006

2006 has arrived! And so I find it appropriate to dedicate this issue to Mineral therapy, just in time to be healthy and prepared for this New Year ahead.

Many of you will be familiar with the Schüssler Tissue Salts, and you may even be using them yourselves at home. Mineral therapy is based on the same principle, the only difference being that in mineral therapy electroloids (in a milligram potency) and not tissue salts (in a 6X or D6 homoeopathic potency) are used.

The basis of this therapy was first developed during the 19th Century, when Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüssler, from Germany, identified twelve different mineral combinations that make up the human body and are essential for the normal functioning of body tissues.

During the process of his clinical research, Dr. Schüssler studied the role and function of each of these mineral combinations within the body. From this he was able to prove that when there is a deficiency of one or more of these elements, the resulting imbalance can lead to health problems. After determining what type of physical disorder a deficiency in each of the mineral combinations would cause, he started prescribing these minerals to his patients with excellent results.

Because many conditions arise after long-term deficiencies in these mineral combinations, the electroloids were developed for practitioners to prescribe (in a less diluted form) compared to the tissue salts (which are available over-the-counter). Both treatments are non-toxic and have no known side-effects.

A mineral therapy assessment consists of a short questionnaire. Your answers are then calculated and the results allow me to see where your imbalances lie and which electroloids are needed to replace the mineral combinations you are deficient in. Should you wish to have a mineral assessment done, please contact me for an appointment.

Wishing you the best of health, and a safe and prosperous New Year!

Watch out for the next issue discussing the importance of supplementation.

Top of page

Issue 6, March - April 2006

I am focusing on the importance of supplementation in this issue, because I find that many of my patients do not understand the value in taking them. Many a time when I ask about supplementation, I am told that since the person follows such a balanced diet taking a vitamin is seen as superfluous.

Fifty years this statement might have accepted without question. These days however, statements such as those compel me to linger a little longer on this topic.

Recent research has shown that our food contains a hugely diminished nutritional content compared to years before, mostly due to increasing industrial contaminants and poorer soil quality. It has become a standing joke among nutritionists that “26 apples a day keep the doctor away”, which while it may seem amusing at first, really causes me grave concern when it comes to giving my patients the quality healthcare advice they deserve.

While I do recommend trying to buy organic and GMO-free produce and eating no preservatives, additives or refined foods, I do understand that this is an unrealistic recommendation for most people living in South Africa today. The labeling of our foods is not as strictly regulated in South Africa as it is in other Western countries and therefore we are often unaware of what exactly has been added to the products we buy.

I therefore advise every person to take at least a general multivitamin and mineral combination daily. Every person has individual supplement requirements but this combination should cover the most common food-related deficiencies. I do suggest that people who have unusual daily lifestyle pressures consider a more individualized supplementation regime.

Should you wish to discuss which type of supplements would best benefit you in your lifestyle, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you the best of health,
Angelika

Watch out for the next issue featuring the importance of Essential Fatty Acids.

Top of page

Issue 7, May - June 2006

Essential Fatty Acids, or more specifically the Omega 3 and 6 oils, have become quite a popular supplement over the last few years. And while you may diligently be taking that capsule or tablespoon of oil every day, do you really know why you are taking them?

Of the 50 essential nutrients which our body requires to function optimally and needs to obtain from food sources, two come from fats and oils. These have been classified as essential fatty acids. They play numerous important roles in the body, including forming part of our cell membranes, keeping the immune system healthy and even helping with the absorption of calcium in the body.

While many people follow low-fat diets due to the popular belief that fats will “make them fat” or “increase cholesterol”, research has proven that low-fat diets also cause these problems, and that the essential fatty acids actually have the opposite effect. They help in brain development and function (which is why children should all be taking them), increase energy levels and metabolic rate (therefore helping us lose weight), decrease cravings, lowers blood triglycerides (cholesterol levels), keeps our skin, hair and nails healthy and may even have benefits in decreasing food allergies.

This does not, however, mean that we should follow a high-fat diet. Most of the fats that occur in this type of diet are processed or hard fats, obtained from meats and frying oils, which have gone through hydrogenation, refining and deodorizing processes to make them economical and have a longer shelf-life. Unfortunately this turns the “good” fats into “bad” fats. Even excess sugar can be turned into hard fats within the body. Therefore knowing the type of fat you are eating is very important.

While this all sounds too good to be true, there are two things you need to remember before purchasing your essential fatty acid supplements.
1. The ratio between the omega oils is very important, since they both have different functions within the body. The ideal ratio has been found to be 2 Omega 3 to 1 Omega 6, since most Western diets contain high amounts of Omega 6. Some researchers even suggest avoiding Omega 6 all together.
2. Be very careful with fish oils as most fish contain trace amounts of heavy metals from our polluted oceans. If you do use fish oil supplements, ensure they are from a reputable company.

Wishing you the best of health,
Angelika

Watch out for the next issue featuring news from Europe.

Issue 8, July - August 2006

This issue focuses on a new diagnostic technique from Germany, which I will be bringing back with me to my practice in South Africa. The Antigen Blood Test, also called Agglutination Test or Colloid Blood Test, involves testing the blood of the person for specific antibodies which the body produces in response to certain disorders or conditions.

While this may sound very involved and expensive, it actually only necessitates taking a small amount of blood and placing it on a special plastic foil. A specific mixture containing the antigens (a substance which stimulates the body’s immune system to produce antibodies) being tested for, is then added to a droplet of blood. The resulting combination is then viewed on a light box. Should the person’s blood contain the antibodies to these specific antigens, an agglutination reaction (or clumping together) occurs.

The strength of the agglutination reaction seen on the slide will determine the value of the antibody titers found in the blood. The more agglutination that occurs, the higher the antibody titers within the body, therefore allowing us to use this as a positive sign for the specific condition which produced the antibodies within the person.

What makes this diagnostic method so unique, however, is that the specific mixtures that the person reacts positively to, can then also be used as part of the treatment for that condition. The mixture can be compared to a vaccine, excepting that the mixture is rubbed onto the skin instead of being injected. This method of application gives the immune system time to recognize the antigen and start eradicating them from the body.

At present there are 10 different mixtures available for testing, and the combination of which mixtures show a positive reaction allows me to determine which organs in the body are affected and which conditions may be involved.

To find out more about this technique or whether it may be beneficial for you to undergo this diagnostic procedure, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I shall be back in my practice on the 1st September 2006.

Watch out for the next issue where I will discuss my experiences of studying in Europe these last few months.

Top of page

Issue 9, September - October 2006

As you know, I have just spent four months continuing my studies in Europe. For two months I worked in a Clinic in Vienna, Austria, which specializes in the treatment of chronic diseases. I was taught a lot of new treatment methods, a few of which I will discuss in the following issues of the newsletter.

I was also privileged enough to visit a few homoeopathic companies in Germany and spend time at the renowned Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland. This clinic specializes in a new system in complementary medicine called Biological Medicine.

Biological Medicine is born in part out of the health care practices of European homeopathy and homotoxicology, anthroposophical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and the ancient medical system of Ayurveda. It is holistic in that it holds the view that all parts of the living system are interconnected - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

The guiding principle of its diagnostic and therapeutic methods is the maintenance of the human bio-system and its regulatory mechanisms. In Biological Medicine, symptoms of diseases are considered alarm signals that appear as patterns of “regulatory disharmony”. Symptoms, which are seen as signs that the body isn't adapting to its environment and/or its internal milieu is disturbed, are the final manifestation of what usually is a long pathological chain of events. The initial causative factors often lie in much deeper dimensions, far removed from the apparent symptom.

Since all healing is, in essence, “self-healing”, the primary goal of Biological Medicine is to empower the human organism to heal itself.

Please contact me should you have any questions regarding these new modalities. I will start incorporating the diagnostic and therapeutic methods of Biological Medicine, together with the other therapies I have learnt, into my practice over the next few months.

Watch out for the next issue discussing Clinical Metal Toxicology.

Top of Page

Issue 10, November - December 2006

Clinical Metal Toxicology is a relatively new branch of medicine which involves the diagnosis and treatment of heavy metal poisoning.

Unfortunately, the dangers of heavy metal toxicity and its link to disease and the benefits of Clinical Metal Toxicology in the adjunctive treatment of atherosclerotic vascular disease and other degenerative diseases are only recognized by a minority of the medical community and it is considered “experimental” by most physicians.

History of Clinical Metal Toxicology

Previously called chelation therapy, Clinical Metal Toxicology has come a long way over the last hundred years. The concept of Chelation was first proposed in 1893 by the Swiss Alfred Werner. But the first chelating agent, EDTA, was only synthesized in Germany in the early 1930’s.

Many chelating agents were developed after the First World War, as a treatment for chemical warfare. Since then many new agents have been manufactured.

Clinical Acceptance of Clinical Metal Toxicology

Many articles have been written over the years on the benefits of CMT in the treatment of numerous diseases. In spite of this, there have been many arguments against the use of this therapy, though the studies have so far all been flawed and manipulated. This is why the International Board of Chelation Therapy has been established, in order to regulate this new field and to ensure the competency of its practitioners.

Sources of Toxic Metals

Many people in our modern world are suffering from some degree of heavy metal intoxication, which has been linked to a wide variety of symptoms and degenerative conditions. Most of the metals are obtained through the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we consume every day.

Some of the most common metals found in our environment include mercury (from dental amalgams, contaminated fish, childhood vaccines), aluminium (from cooking utensils, antacids, cosmetics), arsenic (from cigarettes), cadmium (from cigarettes, exhaust fumes) and lead (from old lead pipes, lead-based paints, ceramics).

Each metal can produce certain generalized symptoms after prolonged exposure, and may explain why we have noticed an increase in degenerative conditions within the population over the last few decades.

Treatment of Heavy Metal Toxicity

The treatment of heavy metals involves the administration of a chelating or complexing agent, in either a synthetic or a natural form.

In my practice the synthetic forms are used for a quick and efficient therapy, while I advise patients to take the natural forms as supplements, to enhance the removal of the heavy metals from the body.

The synthetic forms are usually given intravenously as a more efficient form of delivery into the body, but are also available in oral or suppository forms.

Finding out your metal status

Determining the amount of heavy metals found within your body is quite a straight forward procedure and involves a challenge test, which means that you are given a chelating or complexing agent by either oral or intravenous route, and then a urine sample is taken after a few hours. This urine sample is then sent to the laboratory, where it is tested for a variety of heavy metals, and then approximately 14 days later a complete analysis of your heavy metal profile is obtained.

A challenge test is necessary since heavy metals hide in tissues such as the brain, bone, spleen, liver, etc. and are only detectable in the blood serum with severe and acute intoxications. These hidden heavy metals need to be challenged with these chelating and complexing agents to allow them to be excreted in the urine, so that they can be measured.

Should you be interested in having a challenge test done to determine your heavy metal load or if you have any further questions with regard to clinical metal toxicology, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue discussing detoxification and your body.

Top of Page

Issue 11, January - February 2007

Within our body, metabolic reactions need to occur in a proper environment, free of waste materials and within an ideal pH range. When there is a build-up of toxins (waste material) in certain areas of the body, the natural chemical reactions become slower and of poorer quality, which in turn, can affect all of the body’s functions. As the quantity of toxins increases, our natural defense mechanisms decreases and the body’s capacity to detoxify itself is lessened or even hindered.

Sources of Toxins

Toxins that build up within the body may originate from a variety of both internal and external sources. When accumulated in the body, their effects range from immunotoxicity to endocrine disruption and may also affect the nervous system, vital organs, cellular respiration, antioxidant reactions as well as mucosal surfaces. Some may even be carcinogenic.

Internal toxins are created in the form of end products of our metabolism, such as histamine, adrenaline and many more. If these are not excreted, they can be just as harmful as external toxins.

External toxins may result from the following sources:
• Physical: weather, irradiation/light, noise, electromagnetic fields, radioactivity, etc.
• Chemical: pollution, compounds from our everyday life such as cleaning products, insecticides, medical drugs, etc.
• Biological: bacteria, fungi, viruses, food, allergens, etc.
• Psychological: stress overload, psychosomatic diseases, etc.

Thus as the build up of toxins continues, it leads towards irreversible stages where they cause chronic or degenerative changes within the body. Many diseases that may then appear are directly related to the body's incapacity to rid itself of its toxins.

How our Body deals with Toxins

The body deals with toxins on three levels. It first tries to eliminate these toxins through the normal autoregulatory system, which includes elimination through sweat, mucous, faeces and urine. If this is not successful in eliminating the toxins, the matrix will be activated, as it is the barrier between the cell and the organs. Only when the first two systems fail to eliminate toxins will these toxins reach the cell, and disease ensue.

Organs of Detoxification

Many organs help with the detoxification process. The liver is one of the most important detoxifying organs of the body as it eliminates a large array of external and internal toxins. Excretion through the kidneys is also an important part of the detoxification process, as they will excrete toxins, drugs and heavy metals which have been made water soluble by the liver. These toxins may also be excreted by the gallbladder through the bile.

The extracellular matrix (the substance found between all the cells of the body which holds the cells together) is a natural storage space for toxic material due to its composition and forms a biophysical filter through which all nutrients and cellular stimuli from the arteries and nerves (hormones, etc.) must pass. The matrix binds to toxins in a tight bond and can store them for many years.

This will however distort the function of the matrix as a transducer of information. Toxins will then mount an inflammatory process which is normally present with chronic pain and inflammation. The lymphatic system is the only pathway through which toxins can drain from the matrix. Very little toxic material is transported through the vascular system and if the lymph drainage is poor, many toxins will remain in the matrix.

Symptoms of Detoxification

These include (but are not limited to): • Increased frequency of urination • Fatigue • Mild skin symptoms • Change in bowel activity • Lightheadedness • Headaches • Nausea • Bloating and flatulence. These symptoms are generally an indication that toxins are in the process of being eliminated.

Detox D.I.Y.

There are many ways that you can aid the natural detoxification processes of your body. These include drinking a lot of water, eating more natural and / or raw foods and avoiding caffeinated, sweetened and carbonated drinks and refined foods.

For some extra remedies to help you detox more effectively or if you have any queries, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue discussing Bio-Oxidative Therapy.

Top of Page

Issue 12, March - April 2007

Do you suffer from….

Viral infections? Circulatory disorders? Pulmonary diseases? Parasitic infections? Immune-related disorders? Cardiovascular problems?

Then this therapy may be for you.

Bio-oxidative Therapy

Bio-Oxidative Therapy is one of the new therapies I am offering at my practice. Treatment methods include mixing blood with ozone gas and the intravenous infusion of hydrogen peroxide. In my practice I offer the hydrogen peroxide infusions, thus this will be the main focus of this newsletter.

Bio-Oxidative Medicine recognizes that oxygen is essential for life and is the most abundant element of the Earth’s crust. It is also involved in all our bodily functions and is essential for healthy cells. Unfortunately, we are living in a world with ever diminishing levels of oxygen (through polluted air, devitalized foods and poor breathing), which leads to a chronic state of oxygen deficiency. By implementing techniques designed to re-establish oxidative balance, proper cellular metabolism can be restored and health and vitality returned to the individual.

What is Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a clear, colorless liquid that is made up of two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms (H202) and mixes easily with water. It is created in the atmosphere when ultraviolet light strikes oxygen in the presence of moisture. It also occurs naturally in the earth’s biosphere (traces of it are found in many fruits and vegetables, rain and snow and even in many of the “healing” springs around the world).

History of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide was first discovered in 1818 by the French chemist Louis-Jacques Thenard, who named it “eau oxygenée” or oxygenated water. It has been commercially used since the mid-1800’s as a non-polluting bleaching agent, oxidizing agent and disinfectant.

Hydrogen Peroxide in the Body

Hydrogen peroxide is involved in many of our body’s natural processes and is required for the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. It does not oxygenate the body directly, instead it enhances natural cellular oxidative processes, which increases the body’s ability to use what oxygen is available.

Our white blood cells (immune system) use it as a first line of defense against invading organisms and it is also a hormonal regulator of oestrogen, progesterone and thyroxin. It also helps regulate the blood sugar and energy production within the cells.

Common Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Commercially hydrogen peroxide has been used for the bleaching of textiles, in pollution control (it kills harmful pathogens in wastewater), as an oxidizing agent in the mining industry, in cosmetics, as a propellant in rocket fuel and even in agriculture as a natural insecticide.

Medical Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Medically hydrogen peroxide has recently been used to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic diseases.

In my practice a 0.03 percent concentration solution of hydrogen peroxide is infused into a vein over a period of an hour. The intravenous administration is the most efficient way of introducing hydrogen peroxide into the body.

How safe is Bio-oxidative Medicine

Both ozone and hydrogen peroxide are safe and effective when diluted according to the prescribed guidelines for medical use. When administered in prescribed amounts by a qualified practitioner, the chances of experiencing adverse reactions to oxygen therapies are extremely small. These reactions, while rare, include occasional pain at the infusion site or a Herxheimer-type reaction (general body aches, headaches, nausea and fever) due to a brief detoxification action.

In Conclusion

It has been estimated that over ten million people have been given oxygen therapies over the past seventy years to treat over fifty different diseases. In some cases, oxygen therapies are administered alone, while in others they are used in addition to traditional medical procedures or as adjuncts to alternative health practices.

Therefore both hydrogen peroxide and ozone therapies hold great promise in helping to treat some of the most devastating diseases confronting humanity today.

Should you be interested in having an infusion of Hydrogen Peroxide or if you have any further questions with regard to this therapy, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue featuring Vitamin C therapy.

Top of Page

Issue 13, May - June 2007

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is probably one of the most highly publicized, yet least understood, of all of the vitamins. Yet its proven therapeutic value in the prevention and treatment of a diversity of conditions remains undisputed.

History of Vitamin C

Vitamin C was first isolated in 1928 by Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, and he won the 1937 Nobel Prize for this discovery.

Vitamin C was also championed by Linus Pauling, an American chemist who won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize, making him the only person to win two unshared Nobel prizes. Pauling is often referred to as the "Father of Vitamin C" as he advocated high doses of vitamin C to prevent and treat many ailments.

It is said that when Szent-Gyorgyi was on his deathbed, at the age of 93, Linus Pauling flew to Szent-Gyorgyi’s home to say goodbye. Holding his hand, Linus said wistfully, "You know, Albert, I always thought that someday we two would work together." Szent-Gyorgyi looked up and said, humorously, "Well, if not in this life, then maybe in the next."

The Action of Vitamin C in our Body

Most animals produce their own vitamin C except for humans, primates and guinea pigs. Pauling called this “one of the great misfortunes of human evolution”. He thought the trait was probably discarded at a time when our ancestors had a diet of vitamin-rich plants and didn't need to produce the vitamin themselves. But ever since our diets have become vitamin-poor, we have suffered great deficiencies of vitamin C. Thus Pauling recommended that people make up for this deficiency with daily doses of vitamin C, on par with what other animals produce by themselves, typically 10-12 grams a day, quite different from the usual recommendations of 60mg.

Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of collagen, an important structural component of blood vessels, tendons, ligaments, and bone. It also plays an important role in the synthesis of neurotransmitters - known to affect mood - and carnitine - essential for the transport of fat to the mitochondria for conversion to energy.

Recent research also suggests that vitamin C is involved in the metabolism of cholesterol to bile acids, which may have implications for blood cholesterol levels and the incidence of gallstones.

Vitamin C is also a highly effective antioxidant and may also be able to regenerate other antioxidants such as vitamins A and E.

Sources and Toxicity of Vitamin C

The best sources of Vitamin C are from fruits and vegetables, like citrus fruits, raw leafy vegetables, and tomatoes. Strawberries, cantaloupe, cabbage and green peppers, are good sources. Their ascorbic acid content varies with the conditions under which they are grown and their degree of ripeness when harvested.

Most excesses of water-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C are excreted in the urine and are not usually associated with toxicity, but massive doses of oral ascorbic acid may cause diarrhea.

Drug Interactions

A number of drugs, i.e. contraceptives and aspirin, are known to lower vitamin C levels and large doses of vitamin C may decrease the effectiveness of blood thinning medication. High doses of vitamin C have also been found to interfere with the interpretation of certain laboratory tests, thus it is important to inform one's health care provider of any recent supplement use.

Disease Prevention & Treatment

Vitamin C is said to prevent and treat Cardiovascular Disease (i.e. Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension and Strokes), Cancer, and Cataracts. It is also used to treat Diabetes Mellitus (it improves the utilization of blood sugar), viral, bacterial, fungal infections and inflammatory problems of all kinds, it has a triglyceride- and cholesterol-reducing effect, helps the absorption of iron in iron-deficiency anemia and is a natural laxative. Vitamin C helps counteract the side effects of cortisone drug therapy and decreases withdrawal symptoms in addictions. In arthritis it improves the integrity of membranes in joints and improves the elimination of uric acid through the kidneys. Doctors also use Vitamin C to treat problems of rapid aging, burns, healing of fractures, bedsores and other skin ulcers and to speed up wound healing after injury or surgery. Peptic ulcers also appear to heal more rapidly with vitamin C therapy.

Using Vitamin C as a Treatment

During times of specific illnesses (especially colds and ‘flu), I suggest having an intravenous mega-dose vitamin C treatment (at least 25 grams daily), so as to bathe the cells in vitamin C.

A new study by scientists showed that much more vitamin C is tolerated and gets taken up when it is given via the intravenous route than when the vitamin is taken orally.

Should you be interested in having a Mega-C Vitamin intravenous drip, or if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue featuring Anti-Ageing Medicine and Hormones.

Top of Page

Issue 14, July - August 2007

“Anti-ageing” has become the newest and latest buzz word in the 21st Century. It has opened up a new field within medicine which focuses on the detection, prevention and reversal of age related disease, and has been termed “Anti-ageing Medicine”

Almost 90% of all chronic diseases in adults are caused by the degenerative processes of ageing. Anti-ageing Medicine refuses to dismiss this deterioration of wellness as an acceptable and unavoidable part of growing older. Rather, it strives to maximize your chances of living a long and healthy life, through allowing you to grow older without becoming aged.

The other positive aspect with regard to Anti-Ageing medicine is that it is an integrative medicine, and can be combined with both conventional allopathic and complementary systems of medicine. Within conventional allopathic medicine it has been used to improve the efficacy of or reduce adverse drug responses.

Theories of Ageing

Scientists assign many causes to the ageing of the body. The most important one deals with free radical damage. Every time the body functions, no matter how small the reaction, free radicals are produced. The body does have its own “army” of antioxidants, which destroy most of the free radicals, but these antioxidants also decrease with age and stress. Thus any free radicals that manage to escape the clutches of the antioxidants wreak havoc within the cells of the body, causing us to age faster. Even oxygen is considered a free radical!

Studies show that “stressed” people tend to age much faster than their “laid-back” counterparts. This may be due to mitochondrial fatigue, meaning that the cells within the body are unable to produce energy (which causes fatigue and age-related memory decline), or adrenal fatigue. High adrenaline and cortisol levels, which are the hormones excreted by the body in times of stress, are considered to be pro-ageing. In our stressful lifestyles, where we excrete these hormones on a 24/7 basis, it is no wonder that we age faster and our adrenal glands eventually burn out!

Hormonal changes within the body as one ages are inevitable. Yet scientists believe that this may also be a contributing factor to the rate at which we age and how healthy we remain.

Excess sugar in the diet (high levels of insulin is considered to be ageing), the early onset of chronic disease, inflammation and genetic programming are some of the other causes of ageing known today.

Bio-identical versus Conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy

Since the declining hormone levels have been linking to ageing, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has become quite the rage within the last 50 years.

Unfortunately conventional HRT has been linked to its fair share of side-effects, some of which include increased risks of breast cancer, strokes and heart disease.

Bio-identical HRT is the modification of conventional HRT in that:
1. it has the identical chemical structure to the hormones that exist naturally in the human body
2. it is used to replenish levels to physiologically normal concentrations, never exceeding physiological levels
3. the route of administration most mimics the body’s natural production (its is used transdermally / applied topically as a liposomal cream base)
4. it has also been shown to be protective against breast cancer.

Thus this new form of HRT is definitely the safer route for supplementing hormone levels within the body, and is available for both men and women!

Other substances used within the Anti-ageing field

There are also numerous herbal and supplement preparations used within anti-ageing medicine.

Some of these herbs include: Panax Ginseng, Resveratrol, Green tea, Garlic, Ginkgo biloba, Turmeric and your blue-coloured berries like Blueberry.

And the supplements include, among others: Alpha lipoic acid, Carnosine, all the antioxidant vitamins and minerals (A, C, E, Zinc and Selenium), Co-enzyme Q10 and Omega 3 oils.

In Conclusion

In this manner of “prevention being better than cure”, it is important to continue supplementing with good quality products and ensure that your stress levels are balanced out by daily relaxation and exercise.

Anti-ageing medicine is becoming more accepted within medical circles every day, and is no longer being considered a medical specialty, but a medicine of the future.

Issue 15, September - October 2007

It has become an almost daily occurrence in my practice for me to see some of the most common, chronic and incapacitating illnesses affecting today’s society. Over the years I have found that while my treatments are working to reduce discomfort and the severity of symptoms, there always seems to be a hidden cause blocking the complete cure. I have researched this phenomenon extensively and have discovered that food sensitivities could be this hidden cause.

Allergies to food are commonly comprehended to be severe, acute reactions which could cause death if not treated hastily. Yet there is another, lesser known, reaction called food intolerance or sensitivity which is a non-life threatening, delayed and low grade form of food allergy.

Food Intolerances

It is estimated that close to 100% of the population suffers from food intolerances of some sort. The symptoms produced are often not linked to these intolerances, since the symptoms are often delayed for 48 hours to 7 days after the food has been ingested.

Food intolerances can be inherited (from parents) or acquired (through the constant availability of food, lack of seasonal variation and poor moderation or variation in the diet).

This constant bombardment of food allergins on our bodies leads to an immune system overload, therefore preventing the immune system from performing essential duties within our bodies. This may explain why “new” and more complex diseases (such as autoimmune diseases) are becoming more common. Food sensitivities also increase free radical production and inflammation, which hastens ageing.

Conditions linked to Food Sensitivities

Studies have shown that conditions caused or worsened by food sensitivities, improved by 60-80% after eliminating them from the diet. These conditions include:

• Neurological: Migraine, ADD/ADHD, Insomnia, Snoring, Depression, Anxiety, Poor concentration, Epilepsy
• Respiratory: Allergic rhinitis, Asthma, Recurring Otitis Media, Sinusitis, Post nasal drip
• GIT: Irritable Bowel Syndromes, Dyspepsia, Bloating
• Skin: Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Recurrent Candida
• Autoimmune: Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
• General: Weight gain, Syndrome X, Water retention, Infertility, Gout, Unexplained “aches and pains”.

ALCAT Food Sensitivity Blood Test

ALCAT is a food sensitivity blood test, which has recently been reintroduced to South Africa. It was developed in the U.S.A. where it is used as an adjunctive test in the treatment of anything from minor health problems to life-threatening diseases. It is also used successfully to aid weight loss and improve body composition, and to improve the health and performance of sports people. It is FDA approved and is considered the “World’s Gold Standard in food sensitivity testing”.

The ALCAT test can pinpoint your personal “trigger foods”, and through eliminating these from your diet you will regain your health and energy naturally.

ALCAT Testing

The ALCAT test involves collecting three vials of blood, which are then couriered to the ALCAT SA laboratories. The blood is then dispensed into panels containing antigen extracts from each food or chemical tested. These are then incubated to simulate the conditions inside the human body. The ALCAT “Robocop II” measures the changes that occur in the immune system cells when the blood is exposed to the respective test substance.

There are 1-4 panels of substances (a total of 120 foodstuffs and 30 chemicals and drugs) that can be tested for, and it is advisable to test for as many foodstuffs as possible to derive a more comprehensive result. The reagent panels are fully imported from the U.S.A.

Practical Application of the Results

The results of the test are analyzed by a computer and presented in an easy-to-use dietary modification plan, which is graded into 4 categories:
1. Foods that are safe for you to eat and that you need to rotate
2. Foods you should eat sparingly for 3 months
3. Foods you should avoid for at least 3 months
4. Foods you should eliminate completely for 6 months or more.

While it is not possible to reverse inherited sensitivities, it is possible to reverse the acquired sensitivities if one sticks to a rotational diet and avoids these reactive foods for a minimum of three months before slowly reintroducing small amounts into the diet.

The importance of a rotational diet, in which you rotate the foods that you eat, therefore inhibiting you from eating it daily, is to prevent development of new sensitivities to foods. It also allows you to cope successfully with a restricted eating plan, so that you are well nourished and satisfied.

However, the success of the ALCAT results will be determined by your dietary compliance.

Substances which Interfere with Results

The following substances are known to interfere with the accuracy of the ALCAT results, therefore it is advisable to reduce / stop them for at least 3 days before the test, BUT NOT BEFORE CONSULTING WITH YOUR PRACTITIONER:

• Anticoagulants, Antihistamines, Aspirin, Steroids, Corticosteroids, Prozac, Disodium chromoglycate
• Arnica, high doses of Vitamin C, high doses of Vitamin E

In Conclusion

Finding a nutritional diet that suits your individual genetic make-up is no longer a futuristic goal. Initially this test is quite costly, but it is a once-off investment that will positively influence your health and diet for the rest of your life!

An alternative test which I occasionally use in my practice is muscle testing. The strength of the muscle is tested while the patient holds a vial of the suspected allergin. It gives an approximate indication of food intolerances in a non-invasive manner, but it is a more time consuming test.

Should you have any questions regarding the ALCAT test or muscle testing, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue featuring a presentation I recently gave entitled “The Earth and Us”, about the importance of using biodegradeable products for both our health and the health of the environment around us.

Issue 16, November - December 2007

The EARTH and US

I was recently asked to give a talk on “Natural Health” at a conference. As part of that talk I focused on the link between the environment and our health. And since Al Gore won the Nobel Prize a few weeks ago for his contribution in educating the world about Global Warming, I find it apt to share this part of my presentation with you in this newsletter.

Most of us have successfully “sorted out” the physical aspects of our health through correct diet and nutrition, supplementation and all-round “natural” therapies, but what about the environment around us that also affects our health?

Our Earth – Our Bodies

Throughout the ages, man has linked himself to the earth in many ways. The earth is termed as our “mother” earth and, long before history was recorded, this personification of earth was worshiped for its association with agricultural bounty and life.

The earth’s crust has been compared to our skin, its rivers to our own blood and its mountains to our bone structure. We are made up of 70% water, so is the Earth. When the earth has a build up of pressure a volcano erupts. When we have this build up of pressure inside our bodies we develop spots, boils or gastric ulcers – our very own volcanoes! And on our skin we have tiny organisms living in harmony with us, so shouldn’t we, as the earth’s organisms, show her the same courtesy? After all, when the earth starts to become polluted, doesn’t our own body suffer too?

It may seem a rather heathen way of putting it, but the fact is that since the industrial age of man, the earth has become more and more polluted, and our own health has deteriorated along with it.

We have always been reliant on the soil for growing our food and on the streams, rivers and lakes for our water supply, yet with the increasing pollution in our environment, our quality of food and water has also declined.

Scientific studies show that the old adage of “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” may have rung true in the 1920’s, yet these days it would take 26 apples to give you the same nutritional value! Scary thought, isn’t it?

Safety in Your Home

And what about the immediate environment around you, do you honestly think your home is safe?

Think again. Scientific research has for years produced disturbing evidence that many ingredients in personal and home care products can pose serious long term health risks such as cancers, skin disorders, allergies and asthma, not to mention the adverse impact these products have on our environment.

So you may be asking yourself: what can we do about it?
We actually have some solutions at our very fingertips!

Start off by:
• Choosing to use biodegradable cleaning products in your home, thus the chemicals used in your home will have fewer negative impacts on the soil and water system, and your over-all health will also benefit!
• Re-utilizing your biodegradeable waste, such as your food trimmings, by making your own compost.
• Recycling the basic household waste such as paper, plastic, glass and tins. You will be amazed as to how much unnecessary packaging we throw away every day!
• Using renewable energy sources, and using energy saving light.

These few steps will make the world of difference to the levels of external toxins your body is exposed to, and has to deal with, on a daily basis. And that in turn will have a positive impact on your well-being.

You CAN Make a Difference

And while you may not think so, one person can make a difference. Small accomplishments add up quicker then you might think. Imagine if everyone you know started recycling and moving away from using corrosive, detrimental cleaning products and changed to biodegradeable – those numbers add up – and the change would soon become noticeable!

In Conclusion

My advice to all of you wanting to do your part for the environment is as follows:

• Take it slowly – don’t expect to change EVERYTHING in your household overnight.
• Read the labels on your cleaning products to ensure they are biodegradeable / environmentally friendly.
• Investigate where in your vicinity the recycling stations are found. Or drop off your recycleables (such as paper and glass) at organizations, such as the S.P.C.A., who earn some extra money from selling your recycleables back to the recycling companies.
• Start teaching your children and grandchildren about recycling and using biodegradeable products – after all, we the guardians of the planet for the future generations!

Enjoy your new GREENER way of living!

Wishing you a Happy Festive Season and a Safe and Prosperous 2008!

Watch out for the next issue featuring Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Therapy.

Issue 17, January - February 2008

Happy New Year! I hope this year is filled with health, wealth and happiness for you and your family.

To start off the new year, I am introducing you to the Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Therapy (PEMT) System, a new treatment I am utilizing in my practice as from this year.

Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Therapy

Health and vitality are based on interactions that take place at a molecular level within the body and provide the substances and energy which are absolutely necessary to maintain life.

Pulsed electromagnetic therapy (PEMT) induces small voltages in the body, via a mild pulsed electromagnetic field, which concentrates on creating the type of energy environment that is needed in order to ensure that chemical reactions are able to take place. These chemical-physical processes that allow the organism to better supply itself with energy, dispose of waste products, enhance its circulation and improve the activities of its cells – all in order to support and activate the body’s natural regulatory defense mechanisms.

It treats the cause, not just the symptoms, by effecting self-healing on a cellular level - when your cells are healthy, you are healthy (and the often painful symptoms are alleviated, if not removed completely).

Effects & Uses of PEMT

Increasing the cellular energy of the body is known to improve cellular performance, and thereby influencing self-healing and recovery. This occurs by improving the body’s macro-circulation and micro-circulation, increasing oxygen saturation (improvement of the blood's ability to attach and transport oxygen to the individual red blood cells), improving the cellular metabolism, strengthening the immune system and other vital processes essential to aid recovery from chronic illnesses, speed up post-operative recovery, enhancing sports performance and to maintaining good health. The therapy leaves you feeling relaxed and with a sense of wellbeing.

PEMT has been clinically demonstrated to be an effective treatment to aid bone healing and there’s also evidence that it may be useful for treating chronic conditions ranging from joint disease to venous ulcers (and other wounds and soft tissue injuries), tendonitis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, migraine, pain and sports injuries. It has also shown promise in the treatment of hyperactive children, for general relaxation and for sleep disorders.

When to Avoid PEMT

The usual magnetic field intensity of PEMT is of the same order of magnitude as that of the earth's magnetic field (about 50 micro Tesla), however, the use of the PEMT in connection with organ transplants should always be subject to medical supervision and responsibility and active implants, such as heart pace makers, can always present a certain risk. We also tend to avoid using PEMT on patients suffering from serious heart rhythm and tachycardia conditions, large aneurysms (from degree 4) or heavy psychosis.

What to Expect During a Therapy

A range of different applications are possible with PEMT and these are adjusted according to individual requirements. The patient usually lies down on the PEMT mat for the duration of treatment (varying between 8 – 30 minutes). A smaller applicator device is also available for targetting specific areas.

In an ideal situation, PEMT treatment should be applied twice or thrice a day. For general regeneration and maintenance of health once daily is sufficient and daily treatment for 5-6 days a week will have remarkable benefits. Painful injuries and low energy levels can be improved within a few treatments, but for chronic conditions it can take 4 – 6 weeks to see sustained improvement. For optimum health PEMT treatments should be ongoing. Within 10 treatments most people will notice benefits to their general condition or specific ailments.

In Conclusion

PEMT therapy does not directly heal conditions, but the interaction of the specific pulsed electromagnetic field encourages the body to heal itself. This therapy also enhances all homoeopathic and herbal treatment.

Should you have any questions regarding PEMT or wish to make an appointment for treatment sessions, please feel free to contact me.

Issue 18, March - April 2008

Homotoxicology - The Medicine of the Future

Many of you may be aware of, or even using, the over-the-counter remedies in health shops and pharmacies that are manufactured by the Heel Company. These remedies are classified as homotoxicological medicines and this is the topic I have chosen to discuss in this issue of the newsletter.

The term Homotoxicology is derived from three words; “homo” meaning man, “toxico” derived from toxin or poison, and finally “logy”, derived from the Greek ‘logos’, meaning study. Therefore we can describe Homotoxicology as the study of the influence of toxic substances on humans.

Homotoxicology is based on the integration of basic medical science with the principles of homeopathic medicines.

Classification of Disease

From a homotoxicological point of view, illness is caused by the body’s reaction to the presence of disruptive toxins. What we recognize as the clinical symptoms of illness is what surfaces after the defense system has reacted to the threat (an expression of the body’s effort to deal with the toxins). This means that illness is not the presence of symptoms as such, since these should only be seen as proof of ongoing defense activity.

As long as clinical symptoms are only viewed as a threat to the quality of life of the patient and the entire treatment is geared to the removal of these symptoms, the results will be superficial and we are actually short changing the patient’s long term health.

A biotherapeutic / homotoxicological treatment takes into account the causative toxins and, by stimulating the body’s own defense system, will affect the actual causes of the illness. Biotherapy / homotoxicology is always a regulation therapy, and never a suppression therapy.

History of Homotoxicology

Dr. Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg is considered the father of Homotoxicology. He was born in 1905 and completed his medical training in Germany in 1930.

While practicing as a medical doctor, Dr. Reckeweg had a dream to one day merge homeopathy with mainstream medicine. He founded the company Heel in 1936 and proceeded to develop the concept of homotoxicology, which is a very understandable concept for both the complementary medical practitioner as well as for the conventional medical doctor.

Even though it sometimes seems as if both kinds of medicine oppose each other, Dr. Reckeweg succeeded in bridging the gap between conventional and complementary medicine, in part due to the advances in molecular biology which makes the working mechanism of homotoxicological medicine more apparent.

Brief Overview of Homotoxicology

In homotoxicology practitioners study the way the presence of toxins will influence the functions of the cell and by this the function of the whole human organism. The reaction or rigidity of the defense system against the toxins will define the clinical status the patient is in.

As the approach in homotoxicology remains clinical, research has been done on the mode of action of these types of medications.

Most homotoxicological medications contain micro doses of active components (similar to homeopathic medicines) and are therefore non-toxic. Due to the few side effects and contraindications, no interactions with other medications and the safety and effectiveness of therapy, homotoxicology has been classified as a complementary medicine.

In this way homotoxicology has built a bridge between both conventional and complementary medicine, through the strong conventional medical diagnosis and the gentle, non toxic treatment of complementary medicine.

Homotoxicology relies on three main “pillars” of treatment. These include detoxification of the cells and organs of the body, immunomodulation and regulation of the organs. In this way it is possible to remove the effects of the toxins in the body, thereby allowing the body to reverse the symptoms of disease and to heal itself.

In Conclusion

Dr. Reckeweg’s conviction brought many medical doctors to treat their patients in a different way. Even today, more than 20 years after his death, homotoxicology is a well appreciated concept in complementary medicine and becomes more and more of an eye opener in conventional medicine. In this way, Dr. Reckeweg succeeded to accomplish his dream: to build a bridge between conventional and complementary medicine.

Should you have any questions regarding homotoxicology, please feel free to contact me.

Watch out for the next issue featuring Autohaemotherapy – a treatment protocol that is showing interesting results.

Issue 19, May - June 2008

Autohaemotherapy

I wish to introduce to you a concept which is being used by both conventional and complemantary practitioners in Europe for quite a few years and with considerable success. Within homoeopathic circles it is also called Autosanguis therapy and has been classified as a branch of Isotherapy, “iso” meaning “similar”.

Autohaemotherapy aims to enhance the immune system's ability to fight disease. During the procedure, a small amount of blood is taken from a patient's vein, is sometimes mixed with a natural remedy (such as a homeopathic ampoule) and is then reinjected into the buttock. The blood retains its normal components - the usual complement of hormones, antibodies, minerals and salts present - as well as any metabolic by-products resulting from acute or long-term illnesses.

Autohaemotherapy is not an "alternative therapy", since it does not involve any form of homoeopathic dilution or succussion, and has occasionally been used in mainstream medicine.

The Different Types of Isotherapy

The broad term of Isotherapy has been broken down into smaller categories within the field of homoeopathy:

Organotherapy (also known as Sarcodes): The administration of healthy organs, glands, tissues or secretions to rectify the analog organs, glands, tissues or secretions in the patient.

Nosodotherapy: A remedy prepared from a pathological specimen.

Autohaemotherapy (also called Autosanguis therapy): The immediate intramuscular or subcutaneous reinjection of one's own blood. First introduced by M. Paul Ravaut in 1913.

Tautopathy: (Tauto: same) is the method of curing or removing the bad effects of conventional drugs by means of identical potentized drugs.

History of and Research into the field of Autohaemotherapy

Several hundred articles on the subject have been published in mainstream medical journals, mostly starting from the early 1920s through to the present day.

In 1938 the Editor of JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) endorsed autohaemotherapy as a treatment for psoriasis and refers to its use as a treatment and preventative against other diseases, and in 1935 a report was published of favourable results against cerebral hemorrhage which asserted that autohaemotherapy is indicated as a preventative treatment in cases of established or hereditary predisposition to high blood pressure. In 1941 Filipino Dr. Eutiquiano Cuyugan successfully treated approximately 40 malaria patients with Autohaemotherapy.

Olwin et. al. published an article in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 1997, entitled “Successful treatment of herpetic infections by autohemotherapy”, in which shingles pain was completely relieved within 5 days and a 100% favorable response occurred, with no recurrence of either pain or lesions.

The Use of Autohaemotherapy in the Modern Practice

In Europe, autohaemotherapy seems to have become an acceptable form of treatment. Many medical practitioners in Austria, Germany and Switzerland use this therapy as an adjunct to their normal prescriptions.

Autohaemotherapy is often used to treat chronic immune deficiencies such as allergies, gout, liver disease, diabetes, and rheumatic ailments, or to bolster immunity in bronchitis, allergies, fungal infections and eczema. Some practitioners have also used autohaemotherapy to aid in smoking cessation and to hasten recovery after a long illness.

Practitioners of Autohaemotherapy believe that the reintroduction of the blood strengthens a person's immunity, because the body must mount a fresh immune response (stimulates the release of antibodies) to the presence of antigens in the blood being injected. This explanation finds support in the work of Dr. E. C. Rosenow (Mayo Foundation, 1915-44), who established the presence of a causative organisms or antigens in the blood during active stages of many diseases. Thus many liken the action of autohaemotherapy to that of an autogenous vaccine.

In Conclusion

Autohaemotherapy's attributes of safety, low cost and immediate availability make it a viable tool for every modern practice. It has the potential to treat a broad spectrum of diseases in which the causative organism disseminates through the bloodstream, regardless of the source or identity of the causative organism. And in cases where an inaccessible, persistent focus of infection does not exist, autohaemotherapy may indeed be sufficient to affect a cure, and may be the "magic shot" you have been searching for!

Should you have any questions regarding Autohaemotherapy, please feel free to contact me.
